What a great event again this year! Just like last year the rains came again, the day before the event and murked up the water, but not nearly enough. The bass were shallow and they were biting!
In the 15-18 age groups: 2009 State Champion is McKinley Dick, 16, from Baldwin City, KS. McKinley caught his fish on a black Berkley Power worm using shaky jig head technique, along rocky banks near the dam. His FIVE fish limit was anchored with a 17.25” lunker bass worth a whopping 298 points! (Congratulations! Biggest Bass of the Event) McKinley also caught 10 fish the most of anyone during the event! In the boat with McKinley was 2 time, 11-14 age groups, past Champion Kash Kruep. The Boat owner was Mr. Ed Berends who brought the boys safely through the event in his 519 Ranger Bass Boat.
This age group was a tight race with 4 limits brought in and every angler caught fish.
2nd Place: Brady Sherman 600 points
3rd Place: Chandler Young 573 points
4th Place: Sam Starr 373 points
5th Place: Victoria Kirk 130 points
11-14 age group: A battle of the “Brothers” - 2009 State Champion is Christian Hamel, of Stockton, Kansas made the most of the nearly 6 hour drive to participate, in his 2nd Championship. Christian caught his fish on a Sinking Minnow style bait, Texas rigged with his Revo Reel and Techna AV rod. He also was using a green pumpkin Jig to catch fish. His winning points totaled 232 points! (Way to Go Christian!)
Christian was paired up with 2 time TBF Jr. Champion, Chandler Young. The Boat owner was Mr. Kerry Kruep who also showed the young men a great time in his Ranger Z20.
